Changes to payslip rules only six months away
Employers will need to make sure their payroll systems are able to deliver itemised payslips when new legislation comes into force in April 2019.
Payslips must to go into more detail from 6 April next year to help employees understand their pay – especially those who work variable hours, or do different kinds of work for the same employer.
Under the new law, employers will need to show clearly on the payslip how many hours the person is being paid for.
Where appropriate, they will need to itemise different pay rates for different types of work.
What do employers need to do?
Business owners should make sure they have adequate systems in place to capture this information.
They should also have the means, technical or otherwise, to transfer it accurately to an itemised payslip that leaves employees in no doubt about how their pay is made up.
This applies to all workers, not just employees. Payslips can be written, printed or electronic, but they must be issued to everyone in paid employment for the company.
